Moving waste: what to do once you have registered

Once you have registered as a waste carrier you will need to make sure you complete the right documents when you are moving both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Why do you need to complete documents?

Everyone involved in handling waste has a legal ‘duty of care’. It is the main way to combat fly-tipping.

What do you need to do?

Firstly you will need to know whether your waste is hazardous or non-hazardous. This will inform your decision about what document you will need to complete.

If your waste is hazardous you will need to complete a consignment note.

If your waste is non-hazardous you will need to complete a waste transfer note.

Consignment notes (hazardous waste)

You must complete a consignment note to accompany hazardous waste when you move it from your premises.

Waste transfer notes (non-hazardous waste)

You must complete a waste transfer note when you transfer non-hazardous waste.
