Glossary for the participant scorecard

Find out more about the information found on the participant scorecard.

On the participant scorecard the following items are shown:

Registration Number: the unique CRC number for each organisation.

Organisation Name: the highest UK parent organisation.

Trading Name: the well known name or brand for that organisation as entered by the participant.

SIC Code: the Standard Industry Classification code entered by the participant. Details of SIC codes can be found in this document:

CRC Emissions t/CO2: the total CRC emissions (in tonnes) for the participant, including the non-disaggregated SGUs for the present compliance year.

Overall Ranking in the PLT: is the overall position for each organisation and is based on the weighted score. The best performers will have the lowest number with the worst performers  getting the highest number. Those with the same ranking will be listed alphabetically.

Total weighted score: The sum of the score for each of the three metrics, multiplied by the weighting for that metric. The weighting of each metric varies across different years. See Table 1 for more details:

Table 1: Relative weighting of metrics

   Year 1 2011  Year 2 2012  Year 3 2013  Year 4 and other years
 Early Action Metric  100%  40%  20%  0%
 Absolute Metric  0%  45%  60%  75%
 Growth Metric  0%  15%  20%  25%

Score for Early Action Metric (EAM): the score based on your ranking for your EAM. For details please see How to calculate the PLT

Score for Absolute Metric: the score based on your ranking for your absolute emissions metric. This will not be shown in the first PLT. For details please see How to calculate the PLT.

Score for Growth Metric: the score based on your ranking for your growth metric. This will not be shown in the first PLT. For details please see How to calculate the PLT.

Group structure and Significant Group Undertakings (SGUs): lists SGUs that are part of the CRC group and their CRC emissions.

Disaggregated from: states which organisation this participant is disaggregated from. It also states the rank of the parent organisation in the main PLT.

Disaggregated Participants: lists any disaggregated SGUs which are part of the Participants organisation. It also states the rank of the disaggregated participant in the main PLT.

Early Action Metric Components

Carbon Trust Standard (CTS) or equivalent %: The proportion of the CRC emissions certified under one of the seven carbon management schemes which the Environment Agency has accredited.

Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) %: percentage of the electricity and gas supplies measured through voluntarily installed automatic meter reading devices, dynamic unmetered supply and daily read gas meters in year 1 (2010/11).

Early Action Metric Ranking: the performance of the participant in the Early Action Metric. The best performers will have the lowest number with the worst performers getting the highest number.

Absolute Emissions Metric Components

CRC Emissions t/CO2: the total CRC emissions (in tonnes) for the participant, including the non-disaggregated SGUs for the present compliance year.

Historic average of CRC emissions tCO2: the rolling average of the previous years total CRC emissions in tonnes (including any non-disaggregated SGUs owned at the end of the compliance year) up to a maximum of five years. This will not be shown on the scorecard for 2010/11 as there is no historic data.

Percentage change in CRC emissions: the percentage change in the CRC emissions for the current compliance year as compared to the historic average. This will not be shown for 2010/11 as there is no historic data.

Absolute Metric Ranking: the ranking  based solely on the Absolute Metric. The best performers will have the lowest number with the worst performers getting the highest number. This will not be shown for 2010/11 as there is no historic data.

Growth Metric Components

Emissions per Unit Turnover (tCO2/£million): the total reported CRC emissions divided by reported turnover/revenue expenditure, provided any turnover/revenue expenditure has been reported. Undertakings will report on their turnover and public bodies will report on their revenue expenditure. Reporting on turnover/revenue is voluntary. If no turnover/revenue expenditure is reported in the Annual Report then the participant will not benefit from the growth metric element of the PLT.

Historic average of CRC Emissions per unit turnover (tCO2/£million): the rolling average of the previous years' CRC emissions per unit turnover (including any non-disaggregated SGUs owned at the end of the compliance year) up to a maximum of 5 years. This will not be shown for 2010/11 as there is no historic data.

Percentage change in CRC emissions per unit turnover (tCO2/£million): the percentage change in the CRC emissions per unit turnover for the year as compared to the historic average, where turnover/revenue expenditure information has been provided. This will not be shown for 2010/11 as there is no historic data.

Growth Metric Ranking: the ranking order based solely on the Growth Metric. The best performers will have the lowest number and  the worst performers get a ranking equal to the number of participants in this metric. If a participant has not entered any turnover/revenue they will not have a ranking for this metric and therefore will get a score of 0. The Growth Metric Ranking will not be shown for 2010/11.

Renewables Generation: lists the electricity generated from renewable sources, in KWh, as provided in the Annual Report. This is provided for information only and does not affect the position in the PLT.

  • kWh for which Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) issued. The total amount of electricity generated by a participant for which ROCs have been issued.
  • kWh for which Feed in Tariffs (FITs) have been issued. The total amount of electricity generated by a participant for which FITs have been issued.
  • kWh self supplied for which ROCs/FITs issued. The total amount of electricity generated by a participant which has been issued with ROCs or FITs excluding the amount that has not been used by the undertaking that generated it
  • kWH self supplied for which Electricity Generating Credits (EGCs) claimed. The total amount of electricity for which EGCs have been claimed excluding the amount that has been exported.
  • Percentageof electricity supplies from on-site renewable generation. The amount of self supply covered by ROCs and FITs divided by the total actual and estimated supply.
  • Percedntage emissions covered by on-site renewables. Emissions from total generation for which ROCs have been issued divided by total CRC emissions
  • Percentage emissions covered by subsidised electricity. Emissions from total generation for which ROCs or FITs have been issued divided by total CRC emissions

On Site Unsubsidised Generation

kWh of Electricity Generating Credits (EGCs) claimed: the total unsubsidised on site generation reported (i.e. the participant does not receive Renewable Obligation Certificates or Feed in Tariff for the electricity generated). This is provided for information only and does not affect their position in the PLT.

Voluntary tick box questions: the responses from participants to four voluntary questions concerning corporate environmental responsibility.

  • Y = yes   N = no
  • 'Undisclosed' indicates the participant has responded 'No answer'.

The four tick box questions are (in order of appearance):

  1. Does your CRC organisation publicly disclose carbon emission reduction targets in its annual reporting?
  2. Does your CRC organisation publicly disclose its performance against these targets?
  3. Does your CRC organisation have a named person with management control with responsibility for overseeing carbon performance in respect of its emissions reductions targets and performance against them?
  4. Do you actively engage employees to reduce carbon emissions at work?

The answers shown on the PLT scorecard are in the order shown above.

This is for information only and does not affect an organisation's position in the PLT.

Downloading the PLT and scorecards

Participant scorecards are available to download as .pdf files from a link on the scorecard screen.

The PLT is also available to download as a .xml file from a link on the screen. If the .xml file is used in a spreadsheet then information linking CRC participants to disaggregated SGUs is likely to be lost. Using the .xml file in a relational database should maintain these links.
