How we are increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change

We are working closely with Government, businesses, the research community and others to understand and reduce the vulnerability of England and Wales to the impacts of climate change.

Climate impacts that are especially important for our work on adaptation include:

  • flooding
  • droughts
  • sea level rise
  • coastal erosion
  • habitat loss

The Environment Agency has had it's own Climate Change Adaptation Strategy since 2005. We have already undertaken climate risk assessments and developed adaptation action plans for all the key areas of our business.

We are now integrating the plans into an organisation-wide adaptation programme which will be informed by our extensive operational experience of handling climate risks.
