The Environment Agency is working towards being an exemplar low-carbon organisation.
For example, we are continuing to reduce our travel and our energy consumption. We want to lead by example and share our experience with others.
From 2006-2009 we reduced our own emissions of carbon dioxide by 14 per cent.
But we will not stop there. We are investing in new technologies to reduce emissions even further, for example, in November 2009 we announced a contract to install voltage optimisation technology in 33 of our buildings, which will reduce our overall carbon emissions by a further 12 per cent per year and save £160,000 to £200,000 in energy costs.
Finally, at the end of 2010 we will be moving to our new head office in Bristol, which has been independently certified as one of - if not the most - environmentally friendly office buildings in the country.
